Marc Benioff and Larry Ellison of Salesforce.com and Oracle respectively, have announced an exciting strategic partnership slated to last at least 12 years. Oracle has been a part of Salesforce.com’s infrastructure from the beginning and now that Oracle has embraced the cloud with their new 12c database, this strategic partnership was a no-brainer.
The two powerhouse companies plan to work together to jointly develop out-of-the-box integration between Saleforce.com’s CRM applications and Oracle’s Cloud applications. The pre-integrated applications will automatically share data and work together. This allows for what all cloud customers want, rapid implementation, lower costs and 24/7 access to their data.
Marc Benioff of Salesforce.com announced that each company will be a user of the other. Salesforce.com will become a user of Oracle’s new Fusion HCM and financial applications and Oracle is going to be a user of Salesforce.com’s CRM applications. He continued to say:
“By doing joint development and using each other’s technology, we are going to ensure that our applications work perfectly together when first implemented. Absolutely seamlessly, and continue to work when we upgrade to each and every release.”
Cloud customers like choices and want their choices to work together seamlessly and out of the box without expensive implementation. The new Salesforce.com/Oracle partnership is committed to this objective and both sides insist that they will be better together.
Anyone familiar with the CEOs of these two companies knows that their shots at each other have been frequent and sometimes heated. When asked if this will change now that they are partnered both Marc Benioff and Larry Ellison agreed that this would not be the end of their fun. The men have been in a professional relationship for 27 years and although they will continue to entertain, Larry Ellison notes that the entertainment will never distract from their commitment to work together.
Cloud-based products and services is still a new industry. Salesforce.com and Oracle are both committed to being leaders in this industry. This is a new world and a new time and companies like Salesforce.com and Oracle working together is evidence.
It looks like the future is arriving sooner and the value that can gained is going to be epic.
