In The Next Big Thing in Host Analytics Reporting: Part I of this blog series, I discussed Report Collections and Report Bursting, both valuable time-saving features. Imagine if Host Analytics could make things even more convenient for users with even less manual intervention? Now they have, with Cloud Scheduler!
With Cloud Scheduler, users can set up their Report Collections to re-occur automatically at their desired times such as hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly.
Picture this scenario. You’ve worked a long day and it’s getting late. Users are editing their budgets all over the country and you’re ready to call it a day. Before going home for the night, you schedule the simulation engines to run in the middle of the night to guarantee the budget scenario is updated with the most recent changes. You then access the Cloud Scheduler to set up a task to process the cube once the simulation engines are completed. An additional task is set up within the Cloud Scheduler to finish the process flow and automate the Report Collections to generate. You schedule your Report Collection to run after all of the former events have completed successfully. The Report Collection bursts reports to several people, all with different reporting needs. Department managers and high-level executives come to the office early the next morning, and sitting in their inbox are a set of reports, ready to be reviewed before you even turn on your computer.
The new functionality within the Cloud Scheduler was announced in the Host Analytics Fall 2015 release. It allows Administrators to schedule Report Collections to generate automatically and to use the substitution variables saved in the default settings of the reports. You can also set up dependencies to be successfully completed before executing the Report Collection. If a dependency fails, the remaining tasks will not generate. And this all takes place in the cloud, with little to no manual intervention. Reports can be sent to both Host users and non-Host users via email through Report Collections.
If you’re looking to save time and take full advantage of this new Report Collections feature, give Cloud Scheduler a try! Please leave a comment below or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions and/or tips and tricks for using this feature.
